North Rhine-Westphalia is Germany’s most populous state and also the most densely populated. In 2020 the state in the west of Germany generated 21 per cent - 700 billion euros - of the national GDP, topping all other states.

Digital transformation creates completely new user experiences through new products and services. The developments of the last two decades show how successful these can be: many markets have changed completely, no longer exist or have emerged entirely from scratch.

The digital transformation is profoundly changing our everyday life. That includes government services. Putting the public service on a digital footing is one of the major reform efforts in recent decades.
